Way Overdue.
It’s been 364 days since the last journal article. I know…it seems like a long time, but it really doesn’t feel like it was that long ago. The point of this entry is just to give an update on what’s going on. Dave and I are still in Nashville; Drew and Nick are back in BR. So the band at this point is pretty much just me and Dave. So what the heck are we doing?
In short, we’re working a lot – and all over the country. Between the two of us, we’ve been in Chicago, Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Nassau, Baton Rouge, Austin and every state between TN and CA... As Johnny Cash would say, we’ve been everywhere, man.
Naturally, traveling that much has made spending time on music difficult. But, Dave and I have continued to work on new material, and I am posting 2 new songs to the site today for your enjoyment just to prove it. We haven’t been actively looking for a bassist and drummer because we haven’t been around enough to work with them. But, we have been fine tuning our home recording capabilities so we can get some higher quality recordings of new material.
The plan at this point is to spend our time writing and recording new songs until we get a good stretch where we are both in town for a while, which will hopefully happen this fall. At that time, we will try to get back out to play some shows, either acoustic or with a full band if we can put that together.
In the meantime, look for new songs up on the Web site – we’ll put new stuff up as often as we can!

Lord I was born a travellin man…Well, Dave was actually.
In this latest of journal articles, I have a brief update on exactly what’s happening with the band known as Last Chance Dave. To start, our fearless Dave has been all over the country these past few weeks, and is somewhere deep in the state of New York as I write this. Fear not, for he has not chosen to follow the path of his hero, Ricky Williams, but rather he has started a new job which has required his travel to New York City, Miami, Charlotte, and Terrytown, NY. And I have been out and about as well…In fact, I write this article from the Heart of Rock n Roll, Cleveland.
Despite all this, music has remained a passion. We got together this past weekend and worked on some new material, which shows some promise, and Dave and I caught Ben Folds and Weezer together in Nashville last week, which was grade A rocktastic. And as always, Nick has been catching shows around town.
Our search for a drummer has not really been a search to this point. We are being cautious to find a person with the right attitude, goals, and whatnot. We are pretty happy to play shows acoustic style for now, and we intend to play some full band shows with rent-a-drummers as soon as we can.
We have been enjoying Nashville…it truly is Music City. There is good stuff to check out all the time. Just the past month, Ben Folds, Weezer, Cake, Old 97’s, Spin Doctors, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews Band, and mini-Kiss (a KISS cover band comprised entirely of midgets) have been in town. However, we were very disappointed with the mini-Kiss show. While we did see midgets dressed up like the members of KISS, they didn’t actually play their instruments.
So, that’s the update for now. We are going to try to record some new acoustic stuff pretty soon and it may end up on the Web site for fun. Take care.

What do you call a guy that hangs out with 4 musicians?
So…..um, well….How do I begin this update? I guess get right to the point. Andrew Bryant Greene – cymbalist, awkward phone conversationalist, and all-around noisemaker- has bowed out of Last Chance Dave. Many of you might have seen him already around Baton Rouge. He’s there to stay. So grab him a beer if you see him lurking in the bars (preferably Miller Lite, I mean it is wiping the floor with Bud Lite…) And since Drew was the “last remaining original member” of LCD I guess we are over.
But fear not just like Skynrd, The Beach Boys, and Credence Clearwater Revisited we will take up the torch without LCD’s oldest and most talented member. I’d like to introduce you to the new Last Chance Dave: Kyle Harvey – Guitarist and doppelganger to Kyle Joseph Harvey, Nick Buttita – Bassist and bio-engineered replica of Nicholas Buttita (also combining the genes of former bass-heroes Justin Nix, Joe Blumrich, and Micah Cating), Dave Brooks – Singer and stunt double for that Verizon Wireless guy, [Insert Name Here] – Drummer (most likely some bum we find on the street here in Nashville – everyone’s a musician in this town). You might have noticed there were no song-writers listed in that group. That can be easily explained. Drew wrote all our songs. This might be a shocker to everyone, but Drew was literally ALL the band’s talent. As such we have enlisted the help of many country song-writers in the area. We will also perform old LCD favorites as well.
Don’t fear adoring public! This ragtag group of less talented, less prolific, and generally less awesome Last Chance Dave will still be coming to your area sometime soon, so be nice. And maybe if we’re all lucky we’ll get a reunion show in Jeremy Johnson’s garage sometime. Provided Jeremy, Dave, and Drew can resolve their differences. Wouldn’t it be great to hear Bo Knows, I Need to Know, and Postcards one more time?! I can’t wait!

Kicked off the Island
Just a quick update - we had a fun little show last night with our old Friends from Lake Charles, The Westbrook brothers, of The Thinking Plyers. For those of you who have been around a while, you may remember that we played our very first show ever with The Thinking Plyers at Rotolo's in Baton Rouge, back in June of 2001.
At that time, the lineup was Dave, Drew, Seth Woodard, Justin Nix, Evan Lemoine and me. Currently, Justin is in Chicago pursuing acting, Seth just accepted a job in College Station, TX, and I think Evan is also in Chicago at a Seminary or something like that. We have played with quite a few people over the years (mostly Bass players!).
Other former band members and people that have sat in with us on multiple occasions: Joe Blumrich, Shoeless Derek Bergeron, Lauren Seale and of course Micah Cating. Can we count Danny Beach on Tamborine? Joe is working in IT in Lafayette, LA. Derek is finishing up his Ph.D. in Psychology at THE Ohio State University in Columbus, Lauren is working on her Ph.D. in Psychology at USM in Hattiesburg, and Micah is teaching in Gonzales, LA. Mr. Daniel Beach is the Art Director at Chicago’s Restaurant in Baton Rouge, LA.
I should also note two people that have worked tirelessly for the band: Jeremy Johnson and Drew Losavio. Jeremy has been around since the beginning designing flyers, doing the art on like 4 versions of our web site, designing t-shirts, cd covers, business cards, press kits, you name it. Jeremy is working in graphic design in Shreveport, LA and working on his many artistic projects including comic books and most recently a children’s book called “Joe is blue.” However, I must protest that unlike certain other unnamed members of the current LCD (Dave and Nick), I was not asked to help with the musical accompaniment to Joe, and I am feeling hurt, demarcated and saddened by that most-horrendous shunning. Drew is the official show photographer and roadie of LCD and is currently working for the great state of Louisiana at the dept. of Revenue (Taxes! Dang!).
And how could I forget the lady that sang such memorable backup on Charlie? Honestly, I have no idea where she is…we paid her 100 bucks to lay down some tracks and that was that.
So, I guess that just leaves the 4 of us still in the band. If this were Survivor or one of those shows, at this point I would try to make an alliance with one of the other surviving members. But not Dave, that’s too predictable. My opponents would easily guess that one. Perhaps Nick. Hmm. He seems to be in it for the long haul, but he does have a mischievous look about him. And then there’s Drew. No, he eats way to much Chinese food for me; for that reason, he’s not to be trusted. Maybe my chances are slim after all. What if they have already formed an alliance against me? What if a mysterious former member suddenly came back into the picture? What if a current member had haunting visions of French Chefs that slowly drove him mad? Alas, I am worn out simply thinking of all the possibilities.
For now, maybe we should just keep playing and not kick anyone off the island just yet. But that could hurt ratings. Someone must go. We’ll put it to an Internet vote!

I might want want to move back, too!
“There’s no love like your love…” I never thought we’d be singing those words from the stage off Chimes Street, but life is funny sometimes. First, I’d like to thank everyone that supported us this past weekend in Baton Rouge. I can’t remember having such a good time in a long time. The city seems to be changing a lot. It always happens this way and once again we gave the performance of a lifetime on Friday night only to blow hard Saturday night. Thank God for liquor or the NGT crowd might’ve run us out of town. Besides all the music, we were able to spend time with long lost friends and acquaintances.
I had the pleasure of drinking more McEwan’s than I’ve had since we moved to the “No McEwan’s Zone.” I also had a 3 am run at Cane’s and lunch at the Chimes. By the way, to the waitress at the Chimes I’m sorry I wrote, “Meredith, Make Up Your Mind” using your real name. I thought you’d actually want to take off your clothes once you heard it. I can be pretty silly sometimes. Either way it doesn’t compare in the least to what happened later that night after the show. It seems some people are into taking off their clothes, so no hard feelings?
Go visit us on MySpace at www.myspace.com/lastchancedave We’d love to be MySpace buddies with each and every one of you. Come join the likes on No Doubt, Ryan Adams, John Davis, Wilco, and many others. We’ll have some things cooking up here in Nashville in the very near future so check the site often. I hope to have some demos up from our Saturday Afternoon recording sessions as well. Also, there is a big change most likely occurring very soon. Many of you might already know about it but we won’t post it until it is official. Thanks for making our weekend home a success.
Last but not least: Thank You, Bryan Adams! Thank you for giving the world some amazing music. Thank you for giving us a reason to play and not give up on our dreams, and thank you for writing the most touching ballad in the history of modern rock. Without your songs we couldn’t have made it, because Mr. Adams everything I do, I do it for you.
XOXO

Hello and thanks for all the fish.
So, I thought I would update you all on what’s happening in the world of LCD…partly because you may have some interest and partly so you know we still exist. As you may have noticed, we haven’t had any shows since we moved to Nashville, but I’m here to tell you that will be changing soon. Things have settled down a bit and we are working right now to get things rolling again. You should see some shows in the very near future.
Aside from that, we have been writing a lot of new material. We’ve got some new stuff that we really like and we can’t wait to share it with anyone who wants to hear it. Dave has been cranking out new tunes at an unprecedented rate- so when we do finally play, things should be very exciting.
But, enough band business-we are having a great time here in Tennessee so far. We miss all our friends and family down in Louisiana, but we are having fun exploring a new part of the country. It’s pretty cool here in some ways; but the food sucks. Seriously, some days I think about driving eight hours just to get some real seafood. Red Lobster’s just not cutting it.
One cool thing is that both a rabbit and a fox live in our yard. If a bear moves in, we’re going to rename the band “Uncle Remus”. Stay tuned for that.
Moving on, I went up to Kentucky the other day and went on an underground boat ride. There’s this big cave that an underwater river runs through, and you can actually ride a boat in it. That was a lot of fun and also the most unusual thing I have seen up here so far.
The other strange thing about this area is the colossal size of the churches. On one street close to our house, there’s about 5 churches that rival the Superdome in size. I’m not sure what they do in there, but it must be fun.
Finally, I am excited about the upcoming release of the new Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie. It looks like a good time to me…
Keep checking the site in the next few weeks. We should be updating quite a bit and adding new home recordings of some new material for you to check out.

A Perfect Moment for the Satellites
October 13, 2004
So what the Hell happened to Last Chance Dave (I’m sure 3 of you might be wondering)? Well that is kind of a difficult story to tell. So let me start at the beginning…
We moved to Tennessee in late Summer. Getting jobs was our first priority, so we put playing music off until we could pay our rent. It was meant to be a short time until we jumped into the Nashville scene and surrounding areas. But we hit a bit of a snag.
I can take good deal of the blame if no one else will. It goes like this: The more I put writing and performing on hold the easier it was to let slip by unnoticed. I innocently assumed we would jump right back where we left off in Baton Rouge. All the things from home I thought stifled creativity and motivation were no longer present, are no longer present. But still I’ve found it harder to be motivated and my creativity has suffered greatly. Call it “writer’s block.” Call it what you want. I have been a disappointment to myself. This factor predominantly led to the recent decline in our output as far as LCD goes. I have moved from being overly happy, not a good writing mood for me to being overly depressed, not a good writing mood either. I guess I hoped a unified band under one roof with a new scene would increase my drive to write good songs. Nothing is ever what you think it is and we are learning that. We are all getting along fine. So some things aren’t all bad. Things are looking better.
Today I went to work and something was different. The weather is quite dreary. The leaves are changing and it is misty. In some strange way the weather has changed my state of mind. I couldn’t keep music out of my head all day. I listened to “Recovering the Satellites” twice. I got the feeling I did when I was in high school when I wrote a million songs, some not always; good but a lot nonetheless. I have recently cut out talk radio as well, which I feel has ruined my ability to concentrate on music. I won’t get into it anymore than that. Anyway, I woke up musically. Today I hope we will start to move back in the direction we planned on before moving 600 miles away. I started by writing 2-3 new songs. Nick and I worked on some songs he has been writing. Kyle is close to securing a booking agent in the area as well. Drew is here… he still plays drums and loves Elvis Costello!
We have taken a slight detour in our plan, but we are moving back to our initial goals. I feel strongly that we have turned that corner and will be a stronger band because of it. Nothing makes you love to write and perform music more than a boring day job. We still want to make this our life and can make it happen. And not to break tradition of the self-important musician go vote. Voting is precious. When you go to the polls and make the choice that is going to greatly affect all our lives for many years to come vote for the right candidate. Vote for…

I can’t get used to this. I wake up every morning for the past week and I have to remember where I am. The furniture is the same but now it’s in a different arrangement. I go outside and the air feels a little lighter. I drive downtown and the cars look like home but the license plates state things like “Vols #1!” Whew, Tennessee is going to take some getting used to.
As of this writing myself and Drew are living in our new house. We’ve been splitting our time between unpacking and playing heavy doses of NCAA Football 2005 (Justin Vincent is two games away from leading LSU to its 3rd consecutive National Title and his 2nd Heisman Trophy). Once we finally get everything in place we plan to walk up and down music row with sandwich boards demanding a recording contract and we don’t plan to rest until we get one or until Madden 2005 comes out. Seriously, Kyle and Nick need to get here fast, before we forget how to play our instruments.
We’re sound-proofing our garage for rehearsing. Now many years since Drew and I first played together in Jeremy’s garage we can be labeled a “garage band.” Hopefully the Homeowners Association won’t try to shut down the Rock.
We’re getting pumped because our farewell went quite well. Thanks to everyone that made it out, especially those that traveled from such far off locales as Texas and Mississippi. The DVD/CD looks like it has some great material for everyone’s future enjoyment. We plan to release the whole thing in one package as soon as possible. Tour dates are in the works and writing is always under way. We hope to make it to new venues and old favorites armed with a plethora of new material. So that is what’s new from Nash Vegas. I hope all is well where you are. Enjoy the new layout and features at your leisure. Jeremy and Kyle have outdone themselves once again. We’ll be using this journal as a window into our every thought. For instance, I think I’m going to listen to the new Old 97’s record and drift off to sleep. I miss you all deeply.
XOXO
